Doug Forsythe is a celebrated Canadian contemporary artist and printmaker born in Wolfville, Nova Scotia in 1949. With a career spanning five decades, he has achieved international recognition for his innovative work across intaglio printmaking, monotype, serigraphy, mixed media, watercolor, oil, acrylics, encaustic, and digital paint. A graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, Forsythe is renowned for his technical mastery and experimental approach. He authored the definitive guide to building an etching press—a resource now referenced by printmakers in thirty countries worldwide. His pioneering intaglio collagraph techniques, many of his own design, have set new standards in contemporary printmaking. Forsythe's work has been exhibited throughout North America, with major shows in Vancouver, Toronto, Halifax, New York, and Los Angeles. His original prints were featured in a 1987 tour of embassies in Holland, France, and Germany. In 1997, he received an international design award from Corel Corp. for his digital work. His artistic journey is documented in two monographs: A Forty Year Retrospective (2008) and A Fifty+ Year Retrospective (2021). Forsythe's practice is defined by a relentless pursuit of innovation and a willingness to evolve while honoring earlier discoveries—creating rich, deeply convincing works of art that reflect a lifetime of dedication to his craft.
